Many of us – when choosing a kitchen trash can – will go to Wal Mart or Target and choose the cheapest one that we are able to find. This is usually plastic and the extent of our decision is trying to determine whether or not it should be black or white. Using a plastic trash can is not a bad idea as long as you get the right one.
Advantages
Before you go out and purchase one you must look at all the advantages it has to offer. The first is how lightweight it is. There are times when we would like to move the trash can around the kitchen or into another room during a large party. The plastic material makes it very lightweight.
It is also one of the easier ones to clean. It is lightweight – which makes it easy for you to take it outside and wash it down with a hose and warm soapy water. You can easily move it and empty out the water without fear of breaking it if it drops.
Durability
In terms of durability the plastic trash cans are not always the best choice. Plastic can be easily warped, cracked, and broken due to different things. It is also not going to last a for many years like a wooden trash can would or even one that is made with stainless steel. However, if you have small children this is something that you might want to consider. If your children should ever color on it or if they do break it you can easily replace it.
To help make it last longer you should make sure to clean it at least once a week and keep it out of the way of traffic. If you wait to long to clean it the can will have a horrible smell inside of it that you will have a hard time trying to get rid of.
Price
Many of these plastic trash cans will cost anywhere between $20 to $100. The price will vary depending on the type of lid that it comes with and how large you wish it to be. It usually comes without a lid, with a lid that opens when you step on the lever, and with a lid that will swing open.
