The trash can is an important thing to have in the house. Though we have a few scattered all over the biggest is placed inside of the kitchen. After all this is where we prepare our meals and where the most amount of trash will accumulate. The problem is that there is so much garbage going into it that over time it can begin to look and smell horrible.
It is smart to clean these once a month. The longer you wait the more food, liquid, and possibly even mold will begin to stain it and grow inside of it. Cleaning out the trash can – no matter which one you own – is easy and will take only twenty minutes.
You will begin by removing everything from the garbage can. Take the bag out and anything that has fallen at the bottom.
This can be messy and rather stinky so we think it would be best to wear a pair of latex gloves to keep your hands clean. Take the trash can outside to the driveway. That way you can clean it without making a huge mess.
Take the cap off of it and spray it down with the hose. Fill up a bucket with hot water and detergent. Use a large sponge and scrub the inside and outside of the trash can. It is best to use Lysol or other type of disinfectant so that you can wash away any germs. Take an old toothbrush to remove dirt from the small crevices.
When you are done, rinse the soap off with the hose. Drain out all the water and leave it out in the sun to dry. If you don’t have time for this than just use a large towel. Before you place the bag back inside of the can sprinkle a little bit of baking soda in the bottom of it. This will help to keep the smell at bay.
