Most of us don’t think about what type of trash can we use in our kitchen. We get something simple and that can hold all the garbage that we send its way. That will soon change we start to use our kitchen more often. Why not build a wooden trash can that looks great in the kitchen and keeps the odors from escaping?
Before you can begin you need to think about where you want to put it. Some people prefer to keep the trash can inside of a cabinet or in the pantry. If you put it in places like this than you need to make sure it is small enough to fit.
If you don’t mind it being beside the counter than you can make something larger. For best results on how big it should be you should measure a normal trash can. Make sure to measure how tall and wide it is.
Stand a one inch by twelve inch board up and space it six inches apart. Place these boards between the other boards to create a tall box shape. Nail together the one inch by twelve inch boards into the one inch by six inch boards. Space the nails three inches apart.
Now place the one inch by eight inch board over the top of the box. Nail this board into the sides of the box. The nails should be spaced three inches apart.
Flip the trash can over and sand down the in and outside of it. Any corners and edges should be sanded down and smoothed over.
When you have sanded it completely apply a coat of wood stain or paint over it. If you need to apply more than one coat than allow the first coat to dry for at least two hours.
